Cover my whole drawing with a light layer of charcoal?! What?!

Art II was introduced to vine charcoal today, and they freaked out!  😳  The lack of control was too much for them. After a lifetime of using graphite, they were absolutely overwhelmed by the loose look and feel of the vine charcoal. After several frustrating minutes, they calmed down and began to draw like this:
