Art I Self-Portraits

Art I students began creating self-portraits with graphite value gradation today. First, they traced the outline of their face from a pre-printed photograph like this:


After this step they will begin adding value to their tracings like this:


As they progress more, I will add more pics of their progress.

Styrofoam Still-Life Value Study

Art I students started exploring value gradation through graphite shading this week. To do this, each student helped to set up a still-life with styrofoam cups because they are monochromatic and single textured. This is easier for learning. Most of the still-lives look like this. 


After set up we turned the lights off and opened windows to create darker shadows for contrast. Here is some of the students' progress.
