Spring Semester has started off very well at Benton High School for the art department. I have two Art I classes and one Advanced Art II, III, and IV class. These students have been working very hard over the past three weeks to gain much needed basic art skills. Art I has learned how to properly criticize artworks, use contour lines, and shade drawings to add depth. Adv. Art has brushed up on their contour and shading skills, created landscape and built environment drawings. Currently in Art I we are using previously learned shading techniques to create 8" x 10" self-portraits. Adv. Art is learning how to create figure drawings. Today in class we will start a portrait study in pairs. Both classes are doing very well! Below you will find some pictures of them working on previous projects. By the end of the week, I should be able to post some pictures of finished artworks from both classes.
Art I learns to contour draw through still-life drawings:
Advanced Art starts drawing a 5" x 7" landscape drawing with gradation:
Rosa takes time out from drawing to make a sketchbook with drawing paper and recycled coke boxes!
Krystina is hard at work on her landscape drawing:
Christian and Isabel are working on independent projects:
Colton tries to avoid looking at the camera:
Nick works with Rosa on a sketchbook made from recycled materials, too:
Advanced Art moved their chairs and some drawing boards down the hallway to our awesome rotunda area where we have large plate glass windows. Each student chose a view of the building and surrounding neighborhood to draw for their built environment drawings.
