Art I Coke Can Contour

Art I began their first big studio project today! Yay! In Art I, we always start our semester with contour drawing. It is the basis of all artworks. All professional artists must learn to contour draw in order to be successful. Contour drawing means looking at an object and drawing it's edges and inside details with descriptive lines to define the form. They are done slowly in order to increase accuracy. For their first project, these students observed a soda can and drew it whole and crushed. Tomorrow, they will create a tessellation by tracing a small section of one of the drawings, and then tracing this section in a pattern on a sheet of drawing paper. Check back tomorrow to see more progress!

Art II Study Drawings

Students in Art II began their first studio project. After an introduction and brief discussion of study drawings, each student selected a famous drawing from the textbook to copy. These types of drawings are helpful when studying specific drawing or painting styles of master artists. The pictures below are study drawings. Tomorrow students will begin working on an original artwork in the style of their chosen master artist.  Check back later in the week for images of the original drawings.

And....this is Katelyn, our awesome student aid making herself a sketchbook.

New Cork Strips and AGS Art

Our display case recently got new cork strips, which allowed me to be able to hang all of this awesome art by two of our seniors, Krystina and Christian, who attended Arkansas Govenor's School this summer in Visual Arts. These girls created some really nice artworks!
