Last week in our classes, we began introductory lessons to basic art skills. Here is the breakdown for each class:
Art I:
Art I is an introductory level class to the other studio art classes we offer at BHS. In order to understand art better, we started off by taking a look at the definition of art and how to properly look at and critique an artwork. We learned how to use the four steps of art criticism to properly write about a work of art. Next week, we will begin our lessons by taking a look at the three types of line on Monday. Then, we will begin to explore contour drawing!
Studio 2D:
In Studio 2D, we began the week off by exploring the importance of keeping a sketchbook. Then, we actually made a hardbound sketchbook in the traditional book arts method! These turned out to be really awesome sketchbooks, and I think most everyone in the class enjoyed making their sketchbook! Take a look at the pictures below to see the students in the process of making them. I will post pictures of the finish products soon! We ended the week in Studio 2D by creating a few still-life drawings to brush up on our observational skills. Next week, we will add value to our still-life drawings, and learn how to create landscape drawings.
In Adv. Art, we also started the week off by exploring the importance of keeping a sketchbook. Then, we made a simpler version of a sketchbook by sewing a basic single signature book together. Their sketchbooks were not hardbound, but are very cool because they get to design the front cover anyway they want because they are made of card stock. We ended the week in Adv. Art by creating a series of contour still-life drawings to brush up on our observational skills. Next week, we will add value to our still-life drawings and create a finished black and white still-life. Then, we will begin exploring paint media.
